Principal Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £58,000 + Benefits
Hybrid: On‑site approx. 1 day per week

We’re supporting a growing UK financial services organisation that’s looking for an experienced Prinicipal Infrastructure Engineer to oversee and evolve their core technology estate. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, improving operational maturity, and driving modernisation across a hybrid cloud environment.

The Role

You’ll lead the day‑to‑day operation of core infrastructure services including servers, storage, virtualisation, cloud, backup/DR, and monitoring. Responsibilities include:

Ensuring availability, stability, performance, and security of the infrastructure estate
Acting as the senior escalation point for incidents and major problems
Leading and developing a high‑performing infrastructure team (1:1s, PDPs, coaching, resource planning)
Working closely with architecture, security, project teams, and third‑party providers
Improving monitoring, documentation, processes, and operational controls
Contributing to technology roadmaps and driving continuous improvement, automation, and lifecycle management

What We’re Looking For

Strong leadership and mentoring background within infrastructure teams
Solid technical knowledge across Windows Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, PKI, M365, Entra ID, Intune, Azure IaaS/PaaS
Expertise with virtualisation (VMware/Hyper‑V) and enterprise storage/backup (e.g., SAN/NAS, Veeam, Commvault)
Experience with DR/BCP and resilient platform design
Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling and automation (Terraform/Bicep, PowerShell, DSC/Ansible)
Problem‑solver with a data‑driven mindset and strong communication skills

Working Pattern

Monday–Friday core hours
Hybrid: approx. one day per week on-site
