Principal Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £58,000 + Benefits
Hybrid: On‑site approx. 1 day per week

We’re supporting a growing UK financial services organisation that’s looking for an experienced Prinicipal Infrastructure Engineer to oversee and evolve their core technology estate. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, improving operational maturity, and driving modernisation across a hybrid cloud environment.

The Role

You’ll lead the day‑to‑day operation of core infrastructure services including servers, storage, virtualisation, cloud, backup/DR, and monitoring. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring availability, stability, performance, and security of the infrastructure estate
  • Acting as the senior escalation point for incidents and major problems
  • Leading and developing a high‑performing infrastructure team (1:1s, PDPs, coaching, resource planning)
  • Working closely with architecture, security, project teams, and third‑party providers
  • Improving monitoring, documentation, processes, and operational controls
  • Contributing to technology roadmaps and driving continuous improvement, automation, and lifecycle management

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong leadership and mentoring background within infrastructure teams
  • Solid technical knowledge across Windows Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, Group Policy, PKI, M365, Entra ID, Intune, Azure IaaS/PaaS
  • Expertise with virtualisation (VMware/Hyper‑V) and enterprise storage/backup (e.g., SAN/NAS, Veeam, Commvault)
  • Experience with DR/BCP and resilient platform design
  • Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling and automation (Terraform/Bicep, PowerShell, DSC/Ansible)
  • Problem‑solver with a data‑driven mindset and strong communication skills

Working Pattern

  • Monday–Friday core hours
  • Hybrid: approx. one day per week on-site
