Risk & Resilience Lead – Fractional Contract
Location: London (Hybrid – 1 day per week onsite)
Contract: 6 months initially, with potential extension
Commitment: 2–3 days per week
Start: November 2026
Day Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience
We are working with a prestigious, purpose-led organisation to appoint an experienced Risk & Resilience Lead on a fractional contract basis.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of an organisation’s strategic risk management framework, strengthen its approach to incident management and help shape the future of its governance, risk and assurance function.
You will work closely with senior leadership to embed a proportionate, effective approach to risk management, ensuring the organisation is equipped to identify, manage and respond to strategic and emerging risks.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead the implementation and ongoing management of a new Strategic Risk Framework, working with executive risk owners to strengthen accountability, reporting and oversight.
-
Develop and embed a risk appetite statement, risk scoring methodology and strategic risk dashboards for executive and Board-level reporting.
-
Review and redesign incident management processes, establishing a consistent approach to reporting, escalation, resolution and oversight across the organisation.
-
Provide independent challenge to senior stakeholders, ensuring risk assessments are evidence-based and emerging risks are appropriately identified.
-
Review and strengthen risk and assurance reporting, producing clear, concise and decision-focused papers for executive leadership and the Audit and Risk Committee.
-
Support operational resilience and business continuity planning, while advising on the longer-term operating model for governance, risk and assurance.
Experience Required
-
Significant experience (8+ years) in enterprise or strategic risk management, ideally operating within a second-line risk function.
-
Proven experience implementing and managing risk frameworks, including risk appetite, assessment methodologies and senior-level reporting.
-
Experience designing or improving incident management and escalation processes across complex organisations.
-
Confidence engaging with and constructively challenging executive leadership, Boards and Audit and Risk Committees.
-
Strong understanding of operational resilience, governance and assurance principles.
-
Experience within the charity, not-for-profit, public sector, higher education or a similarly complex organisation would be advantageous.
-
A pragmatic, hands-on approach, with the ability to build proportionate processes rather than overly complex frameworks.
The Opportunity
This is a genuinely hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys building and embedding effective risk management practices.
The organisation has already developed its strategic risk framework and now needs an experienced practitioner to bring it to life, establish consistent processes and ensure risk management becomes an embedded discipline.
The engagement will initially require 2–3 days per week. Longer-term flexibility and extension options are available.
If you are an experienced Risk & Resilience professional looking for a flexible, high-impact fractional opportunity, please get in touch to discuss further.
