UNBOUND mentorship: mentor check-in
Halfway through a mentoring relationship is when the real questions surface. This session is for mentors on the UNBOUND programme to pause, compare notes, and work out what’s actually helping.
We’re four months into the current cycle, so this is a moment to step back from the one-to-one sessions and hear how other mentors are approaching the same stage. Some pairings find their rhythm quickly. Others take longer to find what works. Both are normal, and both are worth talking through.
This isn’t training and it isn’t a webinar. It’s a facilitated group conversation between mentors, built from what’s come up in previous cohorts and what’s coming up for you right now.
What this session covers
- Comparing what’s working and what isn’t across different mentoring pairs
- Working through common sticking points with people at the same stage
- Picking up practical adjustments to carry into the second half
- Reflecting on how your approach has shifted since the programme started
Who this is for
- Mentors currently matched through the UNBOUND mentorship programme
- Anyone finding their pairing has plateaued or lost momentum
- Anyone whose pairing is going well and wants to keep it that way
- Mentors who want to hear how others are handling the same stage of the cycle
Why we run this
Mentoring relationships shift over time, and the midpoint is where most people either lose momentum or find a second wind. Talking it through as a group, rather than working it out alone, tends to shorten that gap.
It also means the things one mentor has quietly figured out don’t stay with just them. We hear a lot from mentors that the biggest unlock isn’t advice from a facilitator – it’s hearing that someone else hit the exact same wall in month two.
About the UNBOUND mentorship programme
UNBOUND runs a structured mentorship programme for women in tech, matching mentors and mentees across companies and seniority levels. Matching takes six weeks, the commitment runs for four months, and pairs meet for around an hour a month.
The current cohort includes 36 mentees and 35 mentors, with several people taking on both roles. It’s built to support career progression, but just as much of it is about confidence, visibility and having someone outside your own organisation to think out loud with.
