Network Engineer – Arista, IPFM, Multicast, IPTV, SMPTE 2110

Job Description

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimising complex network infrastructures with a focus on Arista hardware, Internet Protocol Flow Management (IPFM), multicast technologies, Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), and SMPTE 2110 standards. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of network services in support of telecommunications and IT environments.

Job Duties

  • Design, configure, and deploy network solutions using Arista switches and associated technologies.
  • Implement and manage IP Flow Management (IPFM) to monitor and optimise network traffic flows.
  • Configure and maintain multicast routing protocols and services to support IPTV delivery.
  • Support the deployment and operation of SMPTE 2110 standards for professional media over IP networks.
  • Conduct network performance analysis, troubleshooting, and fault resolution to maintain service continuity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network architecture aligns with business requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures.
  • Apply security best practises to safeguard network infrastructure against vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Participate in capacity planning and recommend infrastructure improvements to meet future demands.
  • Provide technical support and training to stakeholders as required.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and relevant standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with Arista network equipment in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of IP flow management techniques and tools.
  • Demonstrable expertise in multicast networking protocols such as Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP).
  • Experience supporting IPTV infrastructure and delivery mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of SMPTE 2110 standards and their application within broadcast and media networks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Education

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional certifications related to networking are advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in network engineering roles within IT and telecommunications sectors.
  • Hands-on experience in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting advanced network infrastructures.
  • Proven track record in implementing multicast networks and IPTV services.

Knowledge and Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, BGP, OSPF, and multicast routing.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and practises.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical standards such as SMPTE 2110.
  • Competency in scripting or automation to facilitate network management is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Arista Certified Engineering Associate (ACE-A), or equivalent.
  • Experience with software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualisation (NFV).
  • Familiarity with cloud networking environments and hybrid network architectures.
  • Experience working in broadcast or media industry network environments.

Working Conditions

  • Based in an office environment located in the City of Westminster, Greater London.
  • Standard full-time working hours, with occasional requirements for out-of-hours support or on-call duties to maintain network availability.
  • Occasional travel to data centres or client sites within the United Kingdom may be required.
  • The role involves use of computer equipment and may require extended periods of screen time.
