Build Manager – Student Records Transformation (SaaS)
East London (Hybrid – Docklands campus)
6-Month Contract
£550–£600 per day (Outside IR35)
Start: April | Interviews: w/c 2nd March
The Opportunity
A large, forward-thinking university in East London is delivering a major Student Record System (SRS) transformation, implementing Ellucian Banner SaaS as the core platform underpinning the full student lifecycle — from admissions through to alumni.
This is a critical technical delivery role within the programme team (separate from central IT due to capacity constraints), focused on owning the build, integration, testing and release landscape surrounding the Banner SaaS implementation.
Ellucian will configure the core SaaS platform.
You will own everything around it.
The Role – Build Manager
Comparable titles: Technical PM | Release Manager | Integration Lead
You will lead the end-to-end build and test delivery of Banner workflows, Experience Cards and integrations across a complex estate of 80+ downstream systems.
This role is highly technical and delivery-focused — ideal for someone comfortable operating at the intersection of programme delivery, engineering leadership and enterprise integration.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead delivery of Low-Level Design documents from a team of System Analysts
-
Manage developers through the end-to-end build and test lifecycle for Banner workflows and Experience Cards
-
Lead integration engineers delivering solutions across multiple platforms and applications
-
Own integration design approach across a complex enterprise landscape (82 downstream systems)
-
Establish testing approach and scripts (currently not defined)
-
Oversee build pipelines, deployment processes and environment readiness
-
Drive release planning, sprint ceremonies and backlog refinement for integration teams
-
Manage risks, technical dependencies and cutover planning from legacy SRS to Banner
-
Ensure integration solutions meet security, compliance and architectural standards
-
Provide clear reporting on sprint progress, build health and release readiness
Required Experience
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
-
Experience delivering Student Record System programmes in Higher Education (Banner or Tribal SITS strongly preferred)
-
Strong enterprise integration background (APIs, middleware, ESB, event-driven architectures, microservices)
-
Proven experience in Build Manager / Release Manager / Integration Lead roles in Agile environments
-
Hands-on exposure to CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab etc.)
-
Experience managing complex dependencies across large-scale estates
-
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Why This Role?
This is not a BAU technical role. It’s a programme-critical leadership position within a high-impact digital transformation that will underpin the university’s entire student journey.
You will shape the technical delivery framework around a major SaaS implementation and play a pivotal role in a high-visibility transformation programme.
If you have delivered complex SRS or SaaS integration programmes in Higher Education and are comfortable owning build and release strategy in a multi-system environment, I would welcome a conversation.
