Data Platform Engineer

London – 4 days per week onsite
£120,000 base + 30% bonus + benefits

A growing investment organisation is building a brand-new Data & AI capability and is hiring a Data Platform Engineer to help lay the foundations of its modern data ecosystem. This is a true greenfield environment with no fixed tooling, offering a rare opportunity to shape architecture, standards and best practices from day one.

The Role

You will design, develop and scale the organisation’s Microsoft-first data platform, enabling analysts and AI teams with high-quality, reliable and governed data. This is a hands-on engineering position requiring autonomy, flexibility and a practical mindset.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and manage the data platform using Microsoft Fabric, Azure and OneLake.

• Develop ingestion patterns, foundational datasets and platform services.

• Partner with Data Analysts to support data access and troubleshoot platform issues.

• Implement monitoring, governance and cloud cost optimisation.

• Contribute to early architectural decisions and tooling selection.

• Operate effectively in a low-maturity, evolving environment.

What We’re Looking For

• Deep, hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience (essential)

• Strong Azure engineering background

• Broader Microsoft data stack awareness (Purview, OneLake, etc.)

• Experience in greenfield or build-phase environments

• Ability to “figure things out” without heavy guidance

• Financial services exposure beneficial but not required
