The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest independent producer of Official Statistics and is the recognised national statistics institute. For the UK. It is responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population and society at national, regional and local levels. It also conducts the census in England and Wales every ten years.
Requirement
The ONS’s Census & Data Collection Transformation Programme is part of the Government Major Project Portfolio with a life cost of £906.5M, running over the course of ten years. Responsible for delivering a successful 2021 Census, the Census and Data Collection Transformation Programme will run from 2015 to 2025 and has been segmented into four clear objectives:
- Deliver the 2021 Census: research, development, implementation and operation of an online census.
- Transform ONS’ business and social surveys, moving to predominantly online collection.
- Create integrated population statistics outputs: developing and implementing methods for enhancing 2021 outputs.
- Transform the regular delivery of ONS statistics through greater use of non-survey data and use of online collection techniques to make data available more frequently and granularly.
Solution
La Fosse Associates have worked collaboratively with the ONS’ Leadership and Contingent Labour Recruitment team to deliver against key leadership and management hires, as well as the creation of technical delivery teams. La Fosse carried out a comprehensive search process, conducting in-depth interviews covering candidates’ technical competencies, leadership style and cultural fit.
Results
La Fosse has successfully delivered several recruitment campaigns, building out their Business Analysis practice and allowing the Census and Data Collection Transformation Programme to rapidly improve its capabilities and output. We have equally supported the ONS across transformation shared services, delivery support, the Technology Services division, methods data and research, and the COVID Infections Study.
