What is the role of a BI Analyst?

The role of a Business Intelligence Analyst is to gather and analyse data in order to identify trends and patterns that may be used to inform future business decisions. Some of the responsibilities of a BI analyst include complex data modelling, designing data analysis methodologies, and compiling management reports to deliver their findings to senior members.


  • To work with a business to understand what insight they need and propose the solution

  • Ensuring the regular delivery of key reports and data to the business at all times

  • Analysing and eliminating any processes or procedures that contribute to the collection of unreliable data

  • Develop Power BI to present the data in an engaging and interactive way

  • To be able to analyse complex datasets and cleanse data

  • Split their time between engaging within the business and hands-on SQL development work

  • Engage with colleagues within the company to elicit data requests, issues, and requirements

  • Conduct investigative and critical analysis on new and existing data sources, analyse and interpret key performance measures and trends in multidimensional datasets

  • Ability to translate business problems into SQL queries

  • A thorough understanding of SQL and data modelling, as well as database design and management

  •  In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework

  •  Excellent visualisation skills

  • The ability to work with a degree of independence on certain projects

  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills with ability to work with technical and non-technical colleagues
