Job Title: Optimisation SME – Balancing Transformation Programme

Job Overview:
As an Optimisation Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the Balancing Transformation Programme, you will test and deploy optimisation algorithms to support balancing the UK’s electricity grid. Working in an Agile environment, you will collaborate with IT and business teams to deliver innovative tools for the Electricity National Control Centre (ENCC), focusing on algorithm improvement and deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with project and customer teams on dispatch algorithm testing.

• Test and validate control and optimisation algorithms for grid balancing.

• Improve and maintain existing algorithms and control processes.

• Collaborate with internal teams to implement capabilities on a cloud-native platform.

• Support Quality Assurance for optimisation algorithms.

• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth delivery.

• Analyse and interpret data to support algorithm development.

• Deploy custom models and algorithms for energy system optimisation.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Strong background in operations research and optimisation methods.

• Proficient in Python and experience solving real-world optimisation problems.

• Analytical with attention to detail and data interpretation skills.

• Interest in energy systems and optimisation techniques.

• Experience with LP, QP, MIP, and mathematical solvers like Gurobi Optimizer.

• Skilled in data collection, preprocessing, and analysis.

• Strong collaboration skills and experience in Agile delivery teams.
