Network Engineer Skills

Network engineers have responsibility for setting up, developing and maintaining computer networks within an organisation or between organisations. They will be expected to be familiar with Routing & Switching (Cisco / Nexus, Juniper, Checkpoint, Firewalls (Palo Alto, Juniper, Cisco ASA, Checkpoint, Bluecoat, Fortigate), Voice and IPT (CUCM, UCCE, UCCX, Skype For Business). They will have a range of core skills, including Supporting, Building, Designing Network Infrastructure, Taking a Design & Implementing it, Configuring, Decommissioning, troubleshooting and Migrating and Consolidating.

Network engineers will have a background in IT Infrastructure, Telecommunications / Voice, Data Networks or Network Security background.

Standard certifications include: CCNA (Basic) b. CCNP (Standard) c. CCIE (Very Good) d. CCIE LAB (Best).

A typical job trajectory may be: 2Nd Line Network Support Engineer > 3RD Line Network Support Engineer > Network Project Engineer > Network Design Engineer > Senior Network Engineer > Network Architect.
