Role: Technical Lead - Big Data and Azure

Location: London (remote working options will be available)

Duration: 6 months

Rates: up to £600/day (inside IR35)

Start Date: ASAP

Our London based energy client is currently looking for a Technical Lead with Big Data experience to join them on an initial 6 month contract. This role will be lead the team developing a global-scale data platform, based on Microsoft Azure and open source components, to power our client's future growth ambitions and to enable critical data-driven solutions supporting multiple trading desks globally. The successful candidate will be accountable for the technical design and standards for data products in conjunction with the Product Manager. You will provide technical leadership for a range of products and support other Technical Leads as well as be accountable for ensuring for defining best practice and that it is properly implemented across these teams.

Key Skills and Experience Required

  • Building and leading software engineering teams in growing organisations at a local and global level

  • Significant experience working on projects with a diverse range of data types

  • Strong understanding of data management practices

  • Excellent C#/.NET and Python skills

  • Hands on experience with data engineering tooling such as databricks/Spark, ADF, Apache Airflow

  • Experience with SQL, document and NoSQL databases.

  • Significant experience with Azure Functions, Web Apps, and distributed/ event-driven architecture (event hub, event bus, kafka etc.), ELK, etc.

  • Experience with CI/CD delivery using GIT, VSTS/ADO, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, etc.

  • Practical Agile experience

Candidate with an understanding of data used in commodity trading will be preferred, including strong knowledge of trading and market drivers for gas, power, and environmental products, including the importance of fundamentals (supply / demand / capacity / inventory / prices / trades / etc.) in market price movements and potential sources of this data.
