MS SQL (Microsoft SQL Server Software Installation and Configuration
Problem investigation and resolution Monitoring and Administration using MS SQL and Admin Tools Using admin tools to monitor and administer databases
Troubleshooting software issues under daily running. Experience of liaising with software supplier Microsoft, to resolve issues quickly and effectively. Application-Facing Dealing with ad-hoc problems raised by application support teams. Knowledge of programming using various programming languages to allow for quicker insights into queries from applications support team's dbas. Some knowledge of POLYBASE can be advantageous as ONS has an installation of this, especially around problem solving and troubleshooting alongside development teams. Coaching and mentoring junior members of the team to teach them MS SQL and assist in their growth and development to becoming an effective MS SQL DBA. Operating System and Network Thorough knowledge of o/s commands for windows servers and admin tasks - ideally o/s admin level knowledge. Good working knowledge of scripting techniques to create and maintain scripts. Knowledge of SSH/SCP for moving files between servers and WinSCP for moving files between Linux and Windows. Understanding of o/s level backups to collaborate effectively with Veeam/Netbackup team. | |
Responsibilities MS SQL DBA duties to assist in supporting all our MS SQL estate and suggest improvements. This includes, but is not limited to incident, change and problem investigations and management. There is also a requirement to coach, mentor and develop junior members of the team in MS SQL admin. | |
