Scope

Solution Architecture is a critical role within this business. Solution Architects are responsible for providing solution architecture support to business and IT sponsored projects, providing solution design and technical governance as well as contributing to the longer-term strategic architecture of the overall estate.

Responsibilities

  • To engage with the Projects team in providing solution architecture expertise to the projects' portfolio. Depending on project scale and requirements, this can range from triage and watching-brief, to dedicated full time support for the larger projects
  • Translating business requirements into technical solutions by working with the Project team business analysts, together with technical architects, operations, software engineering and other stakeholders
  • To articulate solution architectures and designs in solution architecture documents
  • To develop an understanding of the key systems within the company and how they interrelate
  • Contributing to the enterprise architecture and strategy, with particular regard to cross-system integration - data and application
  • To contribute to the continual evolution of the Enterprise Architecture practices
  • Providing technical governance and advice, including quality reviews and design reviews
  • To maintain an awareness of current and emerging technologies and be able to assess and discuss their suitability for potential use in the business systems enterprise
  • To act as representative of the architecture team with business stakeholders and external clients and suppliers
  • Championing standards, design patterns and modern recognised ways of working
  • To document current and target state architectures for system or segment architectures
  • To provide input to collective architecture problems as a key member of the architecture team
  • Develop excellent relationships with key stakeholders across IT and the business and fulfil the role of being a "trusted advisor"
  • To be able to provide challenge, where required, to external development teams on their approach

Professional experience and personal skills profile

  • Several years' experience in a solution architecture capacity
  • TOGAF approach to architecture is required. Certification is desirable but not mandatory
  • Strong development background with experience in .NET (C#), SQL, Javascript. Experience with Angular, Java, Oracle would be advantageous
  • Extensive experience in n-tier architectures, SOA, design patterns, microservices, API principles
  • Data integration experience would be advantageous, e.g. SSIS, ADF, Informatica. Also, Application integration, e.g. iPaaS, APIM
  • Azure experience is desirable, e.g. deployment using App Services
  • Experience of building solution models - e.g. class models (UML), ERDs, DFDs etc
  • Experience of Agile (esp Scrum and SAFe) and Waterfall methodologies and DevOps and DevSecOps
