About the role

The Unix team is responsible for the global Unix footprint of the company, including all co-located, low latency trading servers, core compute, workstation, developer and simulation environments. The team is comprised of a number of individuals ranging in experience and together forms a tight knit group to deliver a reliable, scalable, cost effective and highly performant global platform used by company's trading, quant, developer and support teams.

The company are currently seeking a hands-on, innovative and driven Senior Linux Engineer at their London office to join the multi-disciplined team of engineers. This role will primarily focus on automating the Linux server estate administration and deployment, as well as general maintenance, performance tuning, reliability engineering and troubleshooting. This is a great opportunity to help shape and drive the company's key automation and infrastructure-as-code initiatives.

Key responsibilities

  • Driving the automation and efficiency of all things Unix
  • Promoting an infrastructure-as-code mind-set across the Infrastructure team and wider technology teams in the business
  • Training and mentoring more junior members of the team
  • Designing, testing, implementing, optimising, monitoring and maintaining the Linux server and workstation environments
  • Troubleshooting and solving faults in both hardware and software
  • Building, supporting and improving a real-time, latency-sensitive trading operation spread across global co-location facilities with a high degree of reliability
  • Long-term planning and engineering for capacity, disaster recovery, business continuity and high availability
  • Supporting core trading and business software deployed on Linux

Essential requirements

  • 6+ years' experience working with Linux in a system administration or engineer capacity
  • Comprehensive hands-on experience using open source tooling to automate linux estate deployment and management e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, Foreman, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP and Multicast, DNS, LDAP, etc.
  • Ability to compile from source and then configure a range of open source tools and applications
  • Able to learn new skills and technologies quickly
  • Solid scripting skills e.g. Python, Bash
