We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join our team. You will be a key player in the design, creation, testing and documenting of new and amended programs from specifications.

Our Development Team is focussed on providing the development and maintenance capabilities for all bespoke business applications, data systems and digital technologies. Are you someone that shares this ideal?

Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:

You will work closely with the business to establish requirements for new or amended systems. Designing, coding, testing, correcting and documenting complex programs and program modifications from specifications. The purpose will be to achieve a well-engineered result.

Are you comfortable in taking technical responsibility for all stages in the software development process? Remaining respectful when taking part in reviews of own work and reviews of colleagues' work.

You will work as part of a team working on our key underwriting platform, with a mix of building and improving the core application, along with the configuration of specific insurance products.

You will provide advice, guidance and assistance to less experienced colleagues as required, taking part in architectural and code reviews and work with Application Support Analysts to Investigate, establish root cause and remediate operational incidents.

Investigate operational needs and problems, and opportunities, contributing to the recommendation of improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes.

Person Specification:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree (or equivalent) or commensurate experience required with emphasis in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems Management
  • Knowledge of good quality development processes including code review, unit test, coding standards, appropriate documentation
  • Specific Technical Application Development skills in one or more languages with a strong focus on full stack Java, MySql and XML, among others.
  • Detailed knowledge of multiple formal development methodologies along with a deep understanding of the IT industry and the implications of new technologies and processes for the wider business environment.
  • Do you have superb communication skills? Can you understand, explain and present complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences in a persuasive and convincing manner?
  • Can you build strong strategic relationships with internal and external partners (business and technical) demonstrating an expert opinion of our business aims and issues?
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, organisation, self-motivation and a desire for self-improvement
  • Can you remain respectful and show a willingness to engage with others, and listen and adopt views and ideas from a wide-range of sources?
  • Demonstrable drive, self-motivation, determination to achieve results coupled with phenomenal customer service.
  • Competent at understanding, analysing & interpreting data along with the ability to lead research and triage of complex technical problems
  • Able to work under stress whilst learning and sharing knowledge with your team and others.
  • Able to deliver information with integrity and sensitivity
