We are currently recruiting an exciting opportunity for someone to join a world leading vendor of technology and software systems as a Principle Hosting & Operations Lead. The organisation is the engine behind the world's most important applications in healthcare, business and government. It develops and supports high-performance database management, rapid application development, integration, and healthcare information systems.

In response to growing market demand, a Hosted Services function was established to enable the delivery of fully managed and hosted solutions. In support of this growth, a Principle Hosting & Operations Lead is needed to manage the day to day activities of the hosting support / operations team, and to ensure that appropriate and agreed service levels are achieved. This is a hands-on role where the successful candidate will utilise experience of technical hands on management of technologies, as well as leading and developing a team of high performing engineers, system administrators, and analysts.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of hosting and related technologies with 7+ years' hands-on, expert-level experience of supporting complex, mission-critical hosted solutions.
  • Good technical skills with 3+ years' expert-level, hands-on support for two or more of the following technologies:
    • Cisco networking equipment e.g. Nexus, ASA
    • Cisco blade / compute environments e.g. UCS
    • Linux systems administration, recently RHEL 6 or above
    • VMWare systems administration, recently 5.5 or above
    • EMC storage environments e.g. VNX, Data Domain, etc.
    • EMC backups i.e. Networker
    • Nagios and Puppet
  • Good experience of leading, and ideally line-managing, a team responsible for the 24x7 operation of managed and/or hosted services.
  • Experience in managing complex stakeholder relationships, both customer and internal.
  • Experience of operating ITIL-based operational processes
  • Good client and relationship management ability with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good ability to identify and gain support for win-win solutions in the face of conflicting priorities and/or opposing technical views.
  • Pro-active approach to identifying, owning and resolving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day activities of the hosting operations team. This team includes staff responsible for network infrastructure administration, systems administration, storage and backup administration, "business as usual" releases and associated service management.
  • Ensure the timely completion of projects and/or work-streams owned within the team, provide updates as required, raise or address risks and issues in a pro-active manner.
  • Ensure that service components under management are monitored 24x7 for availability, capacity and performance.
  • Ensure that service level metrics are monitored, reviewed and reported on a regular basis and that the necessary steps are taken to resolve any issues or negative trends that may be identified.
  • Agree and maintain the 24x7 on-call schedule across the team; also, maintain an up to date support matrix for each customer and/or solution.
  • Maintain operational acceptance criteria for solutions to be hosted by the team and work with the appropriate teams e.g. hosting architecture and delivery to ensure that solutions meet those before going into production.
  • Ensure that hosted solutions are fully documented, including up to date architecture and network diagrams, "as-built" configurations and support procedures e.g. how to perform fail-over testing, etc. Ensure that these documents continue to be updated as part of the "business as usual" operational processes.
  • Provide consultation to customers and stakeholders on in-life customer solutions.
