La Fosse Associates are currently working with the UK's leading recipe box delivery company who are looking to take on a Principal Data Scientist.

This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to build an in-house supply simulation capability as a testing ground for new ideas and to validate new data products. You will drive a simulation-driven culture in Supply, enabling faster, iterative development of all data products.

You will be experienced driving the technical delivery of successful data science products, and will be comfortable setting the direction of data science products while working with stakeholders to understand what really matters.

You'll enjoy collaborating with fellow Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers and Product Managers, supporting the business in building robust and scalable data products as the business continues to grow massively.

Essential:

  • MSc or PhD in Maths, Physics, Operations Research or relevant numerate discipline, or BSc paired with strong industry experience

  • Strong proven understanding of simulation techniques such as discrete event simulations and agent-based models

  • Strong Python programming experience in a commercial setting

  • Experience with managing productionisation of data products

  • Comfortable setting product direction and leading other data scientists and engineers

  • Great communication skills - being able to explain your work and the impact on the business to all types of business partners

  • High-energy self-starter with a passion for data, attention to detail, and a positive attitude

Desirable:

  • Experience in visualising simulations

  • Strong domain knowledge of supply chains, logistics and operations, particularly if coupled with experience in simulating these areas

Person specification:

  • An adventurer in data science - As a senior member of the data science team you will be using advanced simulation techniques to build a capability that will transform how the company sees its chain. You will unlock new step changes in performance for the company's existing data products and introduce new theories and technologies to the team.

  • An end-to-end owner of simulation data products - From optimising flows in the company's warehouse to forecasting how popular new recipes might be, data scientists take ownership over the entire process from ideation to deployment, as well as automation and maintenance.

  • Someone passionate about impact - The company is seeking creative thinkers to help drive the business and disrupt the online grocery market by leveraging machine learning and optimisation. You will work look forward to solving challenging problems that will have a significant impact on the product and customers. You'll recognise when to meet complex problems with advanced solutions or when a simple approach cuts through all complexity.

  • Someone relentlessly raising the bar - One of the most important things for the Principal Data Scientist is to educate the more junior members of the team. You'll bring new and innovative engineering practices into the team, help educate and help to improve what we do on a daily basis.
