Role: Oracle DBA

Location: London (remote until August)

Duration: 3 months initial

Rates: up to £540/day

Start Date: ASAP

Our London based banking client is currently looking for an Oracle DBA to join them on an initial 3 month contract The successful candidate will work on multiple systems upgrade as part of a company wide programme and must have Oracle database upgrade experience from 11g to 12c and above, and the ability to help troubleshoot Oracle database issues around connectivity, authentication and security.

Overall responsibilities are:

  • Complete critical technical work in-line with key deliverables of the Infrastructure Upgrade Programme.
  • Work with other consultants to meet strict deadlines associated with multiple projects under the programme
  • Manage the delivery of building new Oracle databases and upgrading existing databases from current versions to supported versions
  • Ensure support processes and solutions are delivered to the bank and its user base in a timely, accurate and consistent fashion
  • Understand and utilise the processes, tools and technology used by the bank to facilitate delivery of the key strategic projects, aimed at transforming the banks infrastructure estate

This will include general database administration tasks as and when required by the projects requiring support, to include:

  • Install and maintain the performance of database servers
  • Develop processes for optimising database security
  • Set and maintain database standards
  • Manage database access
  • Performance tuning of database systems
  • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications
  • Preparation tasks ahead of any upgrade
  • Provide recommendation on any enhancements and efficiencies before moving to target state
  • Upgrade of Oracle servers from 11g to latest supported version (recommendation is 12c) whether in situ or on to swing VMs
  • Apply additional patches and fixes as recommended by Oracle post upgrade
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues post upgrade and migration
  • Decommissioning of legacy servers and instances where required
