Role: Lead Cloud Engineer (Azure)

Location: UK- London (Cannon Street) – Hybrid working (2 days per week in the office)

Salary: £100,000 – £110,000 – 30% bonus

A fantastic opening to join a specialist UK financial services group as their Lead Cloud Engineer.

In this role, you will be instrumental in defining the principals, technologies and methodologies the company requires to move them towards an always-on Operation.

This role is report directly to the Cloud Engineering Manager and working with the leads and Technical Operations manager across the operational area. You will also be working with peers across the engineering and change functions to ensure that new technologies and product suites are delivered on time, on budget and always with an eye on the in-life capabilities and customer requirements.

Job role accountabilities:

  • Working with Cloud based providers (Azure)
  • Be an expert in Infrastructure as a code – ideally Terraform!
  • Experience with Kubernetes/Docker or other container technologies
  • UNIX/Linux systems administration background (Centos/Ubuntu)
  • Experience troubleshooting in MS and Linux Stacks
  • Have the ability to understand and troubleshoot TCP/IP network stacks
  • Design and build cloud-based infrastructure and architectures that optimize for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain automation tools, scripts, and processes for cloud-based application deployment, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to cloud infrastructure and applications
  • Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure effective communication, implementation, and delivery of cloud-based solutions.

Qualifications and skills desired:

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft operating systems
  • Excellent communicator able to influence others from a wide variety of business functions.
  • Security orchestration automation and response – Able to automate responses to a variety of events.
  • On Prem Infrastructure Technologies – AzureStack HCI
  • On Prem Database Technologies – MS SQL Server\Clustering\AlwaysOn
  • Administer access to domains and connectivity of all applications including on premise and the cloud.
  • Build and manage effective relationships with other teams, agreeing inputs and outputs, terms of engagement and boundaries of responsibility.
  • Understand good practice in service provision and customer service
  • Capacity Management and availability stats monitoring via APM
  • Solid experience with HTTP web technologies (Tomcat/Apache/Nginx/HAProxy) and highly available, scalable web architecture
  • Solid understanding of database administration (MySQL, Elasticsearch, SQL Server, AlwaysOn)
  • Experience in at least one configuration management solution (Ansible / Puppet / Chef).
  • Experience in using monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB, Telegraf, Cacti, Icinga)
  • Programming skills (Python, Bash, Java, Go)


  • At least five years in a similar role in a blue chip/enterprise scale environment.
  • Working in a regulated industry (preferably FCA/PRA controlled)
  • Working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Experience in a DevOps/DevSecOps environment.
  • Strong security architecture experience of cloud environments and cloud-native applications and services.
