Position: IT Contracts / Vendor Manager

Location: to be agreed

Salary: up to £60,000 + benefits

I am currently working with The Police ICT Company, an IT Shared-Service/Centre of Excellence for UK wide police forces and police service programmes, who are actively recruiting an IT Contracts / Vendor Manager

The IT Contracts / Vendor Manager will be responsible for creating and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and negotiating key contracts. You will be responsible for contract close-out, extension and renewal, and communicating contractual changes to all stakeholders. You will resolve any contract-related issues that arise, whether internally or externally, ensuring that a 'risk-based approach' is followed, taking into account relationships and the wider context

Technical skills:

  • excellent understanding of the business and how the services should be delivered to support and improve the business
  • subject matter and industry expertise to champion suppliers effectively and set expectations within the company about what the contract can realistically deliver
  • knowledge of the contract back to front so that the right delivery, performance and pricing models can be applied to ensure the supplier successfully delivers the goods and/or services and any SLA's/KPI's are managed effectively
  • comprehension of the operational and financial risks to protect the business

Interpersonal skills:

  • The ability to build strong supplier relationships that survive under high-pressure is an absolute necessity to ensure the company receives the goods and/or services on time and on budget. If contract delivery is not going well, a contract manager's personal know-how in managing performance, in a way that keeps the supplier engaged and motivated, is very important.
  • A great contract manager is the bridge between the Company, end users and the supplier. To ensure expectations are set realistically and milestones achieved, the following are essential skills:
    • negotiation and influencing at the highest level, having the ability to understand and translate complex requirements
    • effective communication and project management skills
    • the ability to inspire and manage change
    • be able to identify, assess, communicate and manage risk
    • be able to focus on the overall goals of the Company, not just short term/immediate tasks

Experience:

  • Working with a variety of contract types (i.e. preparing, reviewing and negotiating) and contract processes (i.e. implementation, etc.)
  • Extensive account management experience with a complex range of stakeholders, evidencing a balance of contract management and relationship management
  • Extensive experience of drafting complex contract documents, leading on contract negotiations with the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external legal counsels
  • Experience with contract reporting
  • Experience responding to complex inquiries regarding contract obligations and redlines/revisions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of general corporate business practices, government and commercial contracting regulations and principles
