Head of Engineering - Remote Blockchain

  • Job reference: 41509
  • Location: City of London
  • Job type: Permanent
  • Start date: Not specified
  • Contact: Not specified
  • Sector: Technology Leadership, UX/UI and Product, FinTech
  • Salary: £80000 - £120000 per annum + Equity

We are currently partnered up with a team that are all about blockchain technology, investing in cutting edge tech, development, strategy and product management. They are a team built up of blockchain industry veterans, economic experts, engineers and cryptographers and venture capitalists from some of the biggest names in the industry.

They are a seeking a Head of Engineering who will be able to work fully remotely from anywhere in the EU to join them on a permanent basis. You will need to have a background in (mostly) Frontend development, and of course Blockchain experience will be essential. If you have a track record of product and technical leadership, thinking of the bigger picture and a genuine passion to work within FinTech then do get in touch.

Front-end development expertise:

  • Experience using Javascript FE frameworks: React, Angular, etc.
  • Experience in developing large client side of JavaScript applications.
  • Track record of building UIs that remove friction from what is otherwise a complex process (ownership, definition, & success tracking of the user journeys, etc).
  • Command of minimalistic to-the-point design, i.e. think Material Design.

Blockchain experience:

  • Experience with Web 3.0 development (Solidity, DApps, Geth/Parity, Truffle, Web3.js, Infura).
  • Getting systems to production - testnet/mainnet switch, initial retention & subsequent release of control.
  • Following the standardization process (ERCs, thought-leaders, trends).

For this role you can expect to have the opportunity to be involved in the following:

  • Drive the design, implementation, testing & maintenance of the front-ends that clients use to interact with the infrastructure.
  • Constant learning & vision - with Web 3.0 being in its infancy, you need to constantly observe how the industry standards develop but also have a vision for what's the best solution where there isn't a consensus yet.
  • Collaborate with CTO to set the technical direction of product (services & frameworks, system architecture, blockchain integration).
  • Complement CTO's focus (backend, protocols, game theory, ...) by owning the app layer
  • (UX/UI, front-ends/apps, critical journeys, user success).
  • Obsession with security - this is Fintech, security is a priority number.
  • You must follow best practices and always watch out for attack vectors

Prerequisite, engineering best practices:

  • Data-driven project structure: Propose a design with due diligence & competing options explained, work out a timeline, delegate what makes sense and execute by taking ownership (process adopted from Google by CTO).
  • Track record of producing standard-driven, high-quality code that stands up to peer reviews and/or is respected within the open-source community.
  • Aggressive process automation: TDD, invest into CI/CD, seamless project tracking - to free the team up to think & build.
  • Learning by building mentality (rapid prototyping, user feedback, technical feasibility).

The client are looking to line up interviews from Thursday 23rd May, so if this sounds like a role that you could be interested and are keen to hear more, please send your most recent CV to me today at
