We are looking for a Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to provide sound technical leadership in all aspects of a Private Equity Backed, Global HealthTech SaaS business. You will communicate with employees, investors and customers to ensure the company's technology strategy and operations are aligned with and supporting the business' strategic goals. Strategic thinking and strong business acumen are essential in this role. We expect you to be an expert in building pure multi-tenant SaaS products using Microservices, well-versed in current technological trends and familiar operating at an executive level in international businesses while at the same time being hands-on helping the team on Architecture Design and Best Practices.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Chief Product Officer (CPO), the CTO will lead a growing engineering department, working on a large, complex web application comprising both WISP-based (Windows, IIS, SQL Server and PHP) and LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP) components as we look to push the application into a microservice-based SaaS model with a focus on data analytics and machine learning. The department also covers the maintenance and updating of a number of legacy platforms, using a range of technologies.

While the role is based in the Toronto office, the team is global with permanent staff in the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia and Australia, along with some contracted offshore presence. As such, regular international travel will be required.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage the global Development, QA and DevOps teams
    • Shape and manage a global engineering team to deliver new functionality to our existing and new customers in a timely manner while supporting our large customer base, including maintaining legacy platforms
    • Attract and retain top talent through networking, coaching and mentoring, development and performance management
    • Balance day to day operational management with inspirational leadership
    • Determine organizational structure that allows for highest level of communication, decision making, productivity and creativity
  • Drive all technical aspects of our company's strategy
    • Work closely with the CPO and product team in delivering the strategic vision for our products
    • Make executive decisions regarding our company's technological needs and strategy
    • Create the technology strategy for the company to align with the strategic goals of the company
    • Research and stay on top of any new technologies that may potentially increase our company's competitive advantage
    • Oversee and carry responsibility for any changes in system architecture
    • Communicate our technology strategy to our employees, partners and investors
  • Maintain and operate our existing products with our international, enterprise customer base
    • Monitor Key Performance Indicators and metrics
    • Ensure system infrastructure is functioning and working efficiently
    • Build and monitor processes for data protection and quality assurance
    • Ensure regulatory standards are met
    • Manage digital assets
    • Keep platforms stable and at high performance levels
  • Develop and monitor a budget within established guidelines
  • Participate in senior leadership meetings, strategic planning and town halls

Skills, Qualities & Experience

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another relevant field. An MBA would be an asset.

Prior senior leader level experience in a Healthcare SaaS environment is highest preference.

Past global CTO experience is a requirement.

The ideal candidate will have strong business acumen and be a strategic thinker. They should have a strong understanding of business planning and budgets and be comfortable operating in an executive leadership environment. They should have outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Technologically, candidates should have in-depth knowledge of enterprise on-premise and SaaS platforms, multi-tenant SaaS products using Microservices and be well versed in the challenges of transitioning between the two. They should be up to date with current technology trends and familiar with a range of technologies, including .NET, Java, NodeJS, AngularJS, Python, Kubernetes and Docker. From an Architecture perspective the candidates should be experts in the latest design patterns, including Microservices, CQRS, Domain-Driven Design, Bounded-Contexts, Eventual Consistency, Compensating Transactions and all other patterns required to achieve a Highly Scalable Architecture which needs to be Resilient, Available, Scalable, Fault-Tolerant, Sustainable, and Data Optimized. On a Data-level the candidate needs should have in-depth knowledge in NoSQL technologies and when to use them, as how to achieve eventual consistency in both NoSQL and SQL-based Databases.
