Director of Technology & Innovation

Job purpose

The Director of Technology will sit on the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO and the Board. The role will own the technology and innovation strategy of the business, leading a highly engaged IT function, with the IT Director reporting directly to this role. Our client has sector-leading IT capabilities and we are passionate about evolving our digital strategy to maximise its impact on customer retention and acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the thought leadership of technological innovation for the company;
  • Own and execute the technology strategy, validating where necessary through consumer-led research;
  • Collaborate with all departments to identify and prioritise key opportunities for technological improvement;
  • Support the development of new systems and processes by collating best practice from within the business and researching externally for process improvement and innovation;
  • Own the design, testing, implementation and review of all system projects;
  • Create the business case to support any required investment into a technology solution, focusing on its impact on new member sign-ups and the retention of existing members;
  • Inspire a step change in technology, not just within the company but industry.
  • Regularly report to the board on the technology strategy, areas of system improvements and innovation;
  • Lead and work collaboratively with the IT Director, who is responsible for the existing IT systems, infrastructure, help desk and property maintenance;
  • Formulate and manage a substantial annual budget

Skills and competencies

  • To have a wide knowledge of both current and emerging IT solutions and technologies and to demonstrate constant learning in these areas
  • To assess the company's key systems, security environment and customer offering and identify areas for improvement
  • Have created demonstrable change and innovation within a legacy company/industry.
  • To have excellent communication and collaboration skills and be able to converse with both technical and non-technical staff, demonstrating diplomacy and patience
  • To have a strong ability to prioritise and time-manage
  • To have good organisational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • Had prior experience in development and delivery of technology innovation strategy with measurable benefits to the business
  • To be able to recruit, train and coach others
  • Track record in delivering solutions that have transformed the customer experience and had a direct commercial impact
