Data Scientist | 60-80k salary | London based with significant remote working possible

Opportunity for a Data Scientist to join a mid-size insurance company during a dynamic period of rapid growth.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience within the insurance or financial service sectors. They will provide data-driven insights and products to drive commercial value and enable a wide range of strategic business decision processes.

Working on ML and AI projects primarily using a Microsoft tech stack, the Data Scientist will drive business growth, reduce waste and support automation across all areas of the business.

The role requires a high degree of autonomy, and the ability to partner with senior stakeholders and a wider data team.

Person specification:

  • Degree in a relevant field (post-graduate qualifications desirable).
  • 3-5 years' experience in an analytics or data centric function.
  • Strong data query language/tools skills.
  • Skills in creating segmentation and/or predictive models.
  • Understanding of the principles of computer science algorithms and data structures, familiar with mathematical computing, including but not limited to statistical models, linear algebra, machine learning, and deep learning.
  • Solid understanding of anomaly detection and signals processing and analysis.
  • Ability to postulate and verify research hypotheses, explain and present results.
  • Experience with working with version control.
  • Highly professional and credible with senior stakeholders.
  • Logical and clear thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
  • A problem solver / 'can do' mindset and an openness to challenge and be challenged.
  • Exceptional organisational, communication, relationship-building and negotiation skills.

Key skills and responsibilities:

  • Develop company's data science capability and advocate for the use of company data and information assets.
  • Competency in and experience with Python.
  • Grow the test & learn capability of the company to optimise appropriate strategies.
  • Provide commercial deep dives into specific business area and translate data into actionable insight & recommendations.
  • Develop models (rule-based segmentation, decision trees, predictive models) to help decision-making processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on statistical analysis and convey technical results effectively to a variety of audiences, including those with a non-technical background.
  • Sharing learning and insights across multiple levels and multiple business units.
  • Present complex ideas and recommendation to various level in the organisation.
  • Ensure outputs are accurate, timely and meet the business needs.
  • Work with wider Analytics team to define new data sources or improving existing ones.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners and internal clients.
