Data Engineer

Team and Role Overview:

The Business Intelligence team is building a data warehouse to support all internal analytics and management reporting. This is a high-profile project and a key enabler of our 2025 strategy.

Working with the Business Intelligence Product Owner and the scrum team, you will design, develop, and deliver new product features. Leveraging your Data warehousing and dimensional modelling skills you will bring together data from multiple sources and provide well-governed golden source data solutions for interrogation. Managing the data pipeline and ELT processes you will ensure that data is gathered quickly, correctly and in a secure manner.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Build interfaces loading new source systems our Snowflake data warehouse.
  • Define and own the data model that underpins our Business Intelligence products.
  • Use DBT to design & develop data transformations and meet business requirements.
  • Work with front end engineers to automate production of management reports & dashboards.
  • Implement processes to monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available.
  • Perform unit tests on all processes including required scripts and evidence.
  • Produce quality documentation all ELT processes and deployed solutions.
  • Troubleshoot data-related issues and assist in their resolution.
  • Collaborate with Information Architecture and other data management disciplines.
  • Work closely with data owners and Engineering to develop a strategy for long term data platform architecture.

Key Requirements for this Role:

  • Ability to understand business requirements and how they enable improved business outcomes.
  • Experience delivering business intelligence and data analytics solutions.
  • Cloud Database experience (Snowflake, Redshift, Azure). Snowflake preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to build and manage data processing pipelines and analytics solutions; including the development and deployment of processes to support a data engineering CI/CD framework.
  • Demonstrable skills in data systems, system architecture, database concepts, warehousing and data modelling techniques and related methodologies (Kimball, 3NF).
  • Experience in previous data transformation programmes and will have an excellent working knowledge of data flows, data quality and data governance principles.
  • Previous experience in DBT and Rivery or similar cloud ETL tools.
  • Ability to write complex SQL queries.
  • Experience with designing data models for analytical querying.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI.
