Business Development Manager; My client, a leading University is recruiting a Business Development Professional to manage their Business Innovation Centre.

Job Purpose:

Development of projects and activity that promote the centre as an industrial collaboration space in particularly involving academic staff, students and the wider University community.

To provide efficient operation of the Business Innovation Centre, including marketing, management of tenants and leases, events planning and line management of the administration team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Effectively manage the day to day running of the centre including line management of the administrator and receptionists and ensuring a safe professional working environment for employees and service users.
  • Liaising with academic staff, businesses, students and community groups to increase the use of the centre's facilities.
  • Generate new business leads by developing a marketing plan and attending events and meetings relevant to the University's business enterprise and innovation.
  • Acquire and maintain a current knowledge of the University's research expertise and matching this with opportunities for the centre's businesses.
  • Ensure the centre meets occupancy and income generation targets.
  • Collate and maintain all data relating to the centre's activity including the collection of information for yearly management returns.
  • Manage, monitor & report budgets to the board.

  • Knowledge and Experience

    • Extensive experience in managing a similar business facing facilities.
    • Experience of events management and marketing.
    • Experience of activity that fosters engagement between the University and business sector.
    • Experience of developing start-up, acceleration and incubation programmes.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Highly organised with an ability to manage in a busy environment.
    • Experience of managing contracts.
    • Commitment to and understanding of equal opportunities issues within a diverse and multicultural environment.
    • A self-starter, able to demonstrate previous experience of improvement and adapting to change.
