Associate Director- Applications & Integration

DevOps/Agile/CI/CD

I am currently recruiting for an Associate Director of Applications and Integration, overseeing the applications function for my client and having specific responsibility for building, configuring, maintaining, enhancing, and eventually decommissioning applications through their life cycle.

This is a key role that will involve not only improving and modernising the function but also identifying and realising significant efficiencies through the use of third party providers and off-shoring activities.

This role is a part of the senior IT leadership function and is influential both within the Department and wider. The role maintains the application ecosystem in as robust, efficient and compliant way as possible, leads the development of new applications and platforms, represents IT application delivery on major projects and manages the applications budget and seeks savings where appropriate.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

This role will oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of applications:

  • Provide leadership, vision and direction to the applications organization, working with MD IT and other IT leaders to develop overall IT strategy in the context of the business strategy.
  • Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence how applications can enable new sources of value.
  • Develop and enhance methodologies and practices for the application life cycle management in line with best practice and practical experience of continuous improvement, especially oversee the introduction of DevOps and CI/CD.
  • Ensure that applications processes (including those of external service providers) are conducted in line with quality standards, corporate social responsibility, environmental and technical policies.
  • Manage applications group personnel, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Implement and manage application life cycle management status reporting, metrics and benchmarks.
  • The applications leader will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the applications organization, including staffing, resourcing, budgeting and other relevant management functions
  • Manage the process of moving activity to outsourced providers and manage the subsequent relationships with major vendors and service providers to ensure they cost-effectively meet the needs of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

The applications leader's primary responsibility is to ensure the applications cost-effectively meet the needs of the business as a whole.

  • Demonstrates significant experience in managing this function in a major FS environment.
  • Overseeing the assessment of the technical and business fitness of the application portfolio and their associated costs and risks.
  • Facilitating the applications governance process to gain consensus on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes that applications must support.
  • Working with stakeholders and the ITGC to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and application work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the applications budget.
  • Working with stakeholders to accomplish this application work in a way that improves the business and technical fitness of the application portfolio and minimizes its ongoing support costs.
  • Overseeing benefits realisation to ensure the business outcomes are achieved from the applications.
  • Overseeing support activities in conjunction with infrastructure and operations to ensure the applications perform well in production.
  • Working with the chief information security officer (CISO) to ensure that the organization's applications are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.
  • Extensive experience in leading software development
  • Experience in a similar position within a mid-sized organisation
  • Evidence of significant subsequent professional development and deep knowledge of Agile, CI / CD, DevOps
