What is the role of a business architect?
As a business architect, you will be developing a strategy from a business perspective for the view of the company. You will contextualise and interpret which strategy is best for the needs of the enterprise and find ways to smooth out the process of creating a strategy to executing a plan, helping streamline the process.
Responsibilities:
- Researching, programming, designing, strategizing, and planning the building of projects for the company and its clients
- Using architectural design skills to do so
- Develop business architecture strategy based on the motivations and goals of the business
- Define data from across the business and analyse relationships between data
- Build and manage business capability models
- Assist in creating long term project and business plans and roadmaps
- Liaise with different design teams
- Identify areas for improvement
- Align the organisation structure with business functions that you have identified

- Any experience on SAP ERP, Microsoft Dynamics CRM/ERP modules, BizTalk, SiteCore, Microsoft Azure, AWS, .Net Custom Applications, Open Source Solutions.

Qualifications:
- Ideally have some sort of technical background
- In depth knowledge of the business and its functions
- Understand the strengths, weaknesses and the threats that a business can face
- Able to collaborate and liaise with business owners, business strategists and other architects such as enterprise, solutions and data architects.
- Know about cross functional processes and systems: supply chain management, enterprise resource planning and customer resource management
- Good communicational and persuasion skills
- Attention to detail
- Team leadership skills for cross functional team communication.
Professional development:
In order to progress in this role it is advised to focus on training on the job and hands on experience. You can do this whilst completing your certifications.
There a quite a few different directions you can go in as there tends not to be a limit to how you can progress in this role. You can grow your career to a senior vice president, or you can transition to different role. You could become an enterprise architect once you have gained the broader skills and knowledge of other domains. You could also move into product management as these roles share many of the same skills, or alternatively if you become aware of different frameworks for management and business concepts, you could make the transition to a more strategic role.
