London DevOps #36 with Elsevier

07/06/2018 By Omer Saadet

The La Fosse DevOps Meetup is for IT executives, DevOps evangelists, and technical specialists to share insights, build relationships, and learn how to drive the behavioural changes needed to achieve a DevOps culture.

The last event was held in partnership with Elsevier.

The evening consistd of several short presentations by our invited industry leading speakers, followed by a Q&A session, and networking.

This group provided a chance to meet fellow minded individuals, from people that have been doing DevOps for a long time to new starters!

We covered everything about DevOps including Automation, Orchestration, Containers, Virtualisation, Service Discovery, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.

Taking Spinnaker for a Spin - Alex Leonhardt (Elsevier)
Alex Leonhardt is a senior systems engineer at Elsevier.

Spinnaker is an open-source, multi-cloud continuous delivery platform from Netflix. Alex spoke about a hackday's worth of experience running Netflix's Spinnaker on a local Kubernetes 'cluster'. Netflix contribute a substantial amount of software to the community, but given that many of us are not operating at the scale of Netflix, this can limit adoption. We will have an open discussion as to why this is, how Netflix are "special", and how we can best make use of their tools. Or are we are just doing it wrong?

Setting up an SSH CA - Phil Taprogge
Phil Taprogge is DevOps Lead at Pusher.

Since moving to the cloud, or to Kubernetes, logging into a server has become less common, but when things go really wrong we sometimes just need a shell - usually in a hurry. The problem of managing SSH access to servers has never gone away, and in fact, the less often it is needed the more reliable the tooling needs to be. Phil talked through his solution to this problem.

We look forward to meeting you at the next La Fosse DevOps - join and stay up to date on upcoming events.
