Meet the consultant: Jacob Brown

​Hello! I'm Jacob and I work in our Digital team, leading the Mobile Engineering practice. I've been at La Fosse for three years.

What excites me about technology in my specialist area?

As a consultant who specialises in Mobile technology, I find it super interesting to see how AI and the world of mobile is evolving. There are so many new, cross-platform technologies emerging in the market, and I’m keen to see what this means for the future of websites and applications. Plus, with everything moving towards a digital environment, it’s an exciting opportunity for innovation - sparks of which I'm already seeing among my clients.

A few years ago, we didn't even know about new software development technologies like Flutter, Next.js, and React Native, but now they're becoming so much more mainstream in commercial environments. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops in the future, and how AI, machine learning, and data-driven business models can continue to shape the way we interact with the world.

My prediction for tech in 5 years’ time is...

The way we code and consume technology will evolve into something different. My bet is on the rise of AI-powered wearable tech. If mobile apps are on a projected screen that appears in front of you, what does this mean for the back end - will keyboards become obsolete, and how will engineers' and developers' roles change?

It's also really interesting to consider how skills will have to evolve alongside emerging technologies. Back in the day, we had Flash developers who later moved naturally into mobile - what's the next native engineering role going to be? I'm looking forward to the challenge of figuring out which skills today's mobile engineers can translate into skills for the future, and what transferrable knowledge will be invaluable in years to come.
