futureproof is very excited to be the official partner of the Tech Nation Diversity & Inclusion Toolkit. Released earlier this month, the toolkit is a comprehensive resource for tech leaders on how to build diverse and inclusive companies and is set to become a key resource in the coming years.
“Diversity efforts shouldn’t have to be steered by minority groups. It’s up to organisational leaders to start working on creating an inclusive environment for everyone and create opportunities today that will strengthen the future of both the company and its employees.”
futureproof is a technology training company set up by La Fosse to tackle two key problems in the tech industry:
a huge skills shortage, especially within software engineering
a lack of diversity at all seniority levels
Increasingly, our clients were struggling to attract and retain diverse talent for their technology teams. futureproof aims to solve these issues by creating a sustainable pipeline of highly skilled and motivated talent, training and mentoring them to become the tech superstars of the future. Most notably, futureproof is free for students – this allows us to select based purely on ability, rather than the ability to pay.
Why does diversity matter?
Not only does increasing diversity create a workforce that is more representative of the UK population and therefore better able to serve its audience’s needs, it’s also highly beneficial for a company’s reputation and business growth.
According to Glassdoor, 67% of job seekers consider workplace diversity to be an important factor when considering employment opportunities, and more than 50% of current employees want their workplace to do more to increase diversity. In a candidate-led market such as the technology sector, this is crucial for staying ahead of the competition and attracting the very best talent.
Diversity has also been shown to impact business success. Companies with higher-than-average diversity had 19% higher innovation revenues, and according to a 2015 McKinsey report, companies in the top quarter for racial/ethnic diversity are 35% more likely to surpass peers, while those in the same bracket for gender diversity are 15% more likely to do the same.
Creating more equitable businesses benefits employees, companies and society. It’s not just the right thing to do, it’s also a better move for your business in the long-term.
futureproof’s partnership with Tech Nation is a fantastic way for us to support industry-wide efforts to improve diversity across the board, ensuring that it remains at the top of everyone’s agenda.
